Are You Making These Three Damaging Mistakes When it Comes to Your Fitness Goals?

March 22, 2016 by Brian Clark

Healthy Body

Back when I started Further, I was in close to the best shape of my life. I had lost 30 pounds, ate well, and exercised regularly.

But in the last 7 months or so, I’ve reverted to old habits. I’m not quite the maximum density I was before I lost the 30 pounds, but I’m pushing it.

I think that’s because I focused on short-term results instead of truly changing lifelong bad habits. And that’s a surefire recipe for backsliding.

So, today’s lead article is all about focusing on the correct things that lead to true change. It is possible to change your life for the long haul, as long as you commit to the correct goals.

If boils down to:

  • Process Not Results
  • Approach Not Avoid
  • Mastery Not Performance

The cool thing is that these principles apply to all goals, not just health and fitness. I’ve learned my lesson, so I highly recommend this lengthy but incredibly useful article.

The 3 absolute worst health and fitness goals you must avoid

Ketogenic People

The low-carb, high-fat ketogenic diet is a proven way to lose weight. But we’re making true dietary changes, not following crash diets, right? The other science-backed benefits to this approach to eating are fairly compelling.

Tai One On

Make no mistake, t’ai chi ch’uan is a badass martial art. And it’s also a fantastic meditative practice. But the reason you see so many elderly people practicing it in the park is due to even more pragmatic benefits.

The Art of the Side Hustle

Personal projects are the key to personal growth. They’re not always economic in nature, but often they are. I particularly like the “I’m getting myself unstuck from a rut” side project.

Mind On Your Money

Developing mindfulness in your everyday activities is important, and nowhere is that more apparent than with money. Financial mindfulness will lower your anxiety, focus your approach, and save you money.

Create Purposefully

Creativity is essential to modern business, and in the future … to have a vocation at all. The key thing to understand is that even “accidental” acts of creation are earned.

Can’t Change It

“New research provides a whole new understanding of the brain’s amygdala—and suggests that happy people take the bad with the good.”

Don’t Choose Two

Excellent and wise little article from Derek Sivers. There are three things to consider when making an important life decision, and yet we so often settle for two out of three.

Insecurities Trading

How do we become OK with ourselves? How do we learn to find contentment and peace? The answer isn’t simple, but it requires one thing to start with: a willingness to face what we usually don’t want to face.
