Here’s What to Listen to if You Want to Sleep Well

December 7, 2016 by Brian Clark

Sleep

Just when I thought my life was back to normal …

I’m spending this week serving on a jury in a criminal case. Attorneys generally don’t like for other attorneys (even former ones) to be on their jury, but in this case, neither side booted me.

So, it’s been an interesting turn of unplanned events.

That said, we’ll keep this intro short. I did find a bunch of interesting stuff to share in my spare time, including a piece about a song that is supposed to put you to sleep, guaranteed.

“Weightless” is sometimes referred to as “the most relaxing song in the world,” and many scientists agree with that claim. A new study even found that the jam reduced the overall anxiety of female listeners by 65 percent.

I tend to listen to white noise and ocean waves to go to sleep, and it generally works pretty well. But I’m always open to trying something new — especially since it’s free on Spotify.

So, next time you’re trying to drift off to sleep, close your eyes and press play on “Weightless.” The song has over 8.7 million plays on Spotify, so fans must be onto something.

Back to the jury box for me. Hope your week is going well!

Against the Grain

Carbs form the base of the revered Food Pyramid, and doctors have been promoting heart-healthy whole grains for the last 30 years. Grains must be an essential part of eating well, right?

Winter is Coming

Holiday parties tell us to embrace our love of engorging ourselves with so much food our belt buckles burst. Cold weather that encourages us to sleep in, avoid the elements, and say “maybe tomorrow.”

Nuts are very good for you. While they are high in fat, in most cases, it’s healthy fat. They’re also a good source of fiber and protein.

Founder Fit

A healthy lifestyle and a healthy dosage of outdoors have a lot of unfathomable advantages. It keeps one motivated, punctual, active and inspires new ideas and creativity.

Go Deep

“Deep tallies” are a procedure for documenting how much deep work you actually accomplish, and the embarrassment of a small tally motivates a more intense commitment to finding time to focus. “Deep scheduling” allows you to block off and protect sufficient time to get deep work done.

401 Okay

The maximum amount most people can contribute to their 401(k) plan won’t change next year — it will remain $18,000 — but plans will change and modernize in several other ways.

Age Well

In a paper just published by researchers at Chapman University, findings showed associations between psychological well-being and physical activity in adults ages 50 and older. The researchers found that higher psychological well-being at the start of the study was associated with greater levels of physical activity across more than a decade

Join the System

When it comes to actually getting things done and making progress in the areas that are important to you, there is a much better way to do things. It all comes down to the difference between goals and systems.

Forget About Setting Goals. Focus on This Instead

Create or Die

Sure, creativity is something worth cultivating for its own sake, but the side effects are also pretty great. And a study published earlier this week in the Journal of Creative Behavior added another perk to the list: The more creative you are, it seems, the less concerned you are about death.
