Hello!
Well, Trudi is off this week, and I’m struggling with getting my daughter moved into her first apartment (in more ways than one). So, this seems like a good time for a roundup issue of Further.
Fortunately, there’s plenty of good stuff to share. Let’s take a look:
Micronutrient Manual
Vitamins and minerals are micronutrients. And without them, our bodies wouldn’t develop or function correctly. In most cases we’re not talking about supplements — so check out the foods you need to get your micronutrition game down.
The Ultimate Guide to Vitamins and Minerals
Mental Gut Check
“By restoring health in the microbiome we’re able to reverse age-related cognitive deficits,” scientists say about their new study in mice. We’ll see if it translates to humans in clinical trials, but this is yet another angle that makes life and healthspan extension seem close at hand.

Metabolic Fate
This one likely has many of us scratching our heads, as we seem to gain weight much easier at midlife. A new study challenges assumptions about energy expenditure by people, including the idea that metabolism slows at middle age.
What We Think We Know About Metabolism May Be Wrong
Blue Zone Defense
In Blue Zones, people live well into their nineties with zero health problems, while in other areas of the world we get sidelined by diabetes, heart disease, and autoimmune conditions. These regions are spread throughout the world — but it’s not where they’re located that’s so important, it’s more about what the locals do on the daily that makes the biggest impact on their health.

Sandwich Jam
The “sandwich generation” consists of those individuals who find themselves stuck between taking care of their elderly parents, while also attending to their children (that’s us). As you can imagine, it can be a challenge to take care of yourself too.

Mind On Your Money?
Mindfulness developed as a part of Buddhism, where it’s intimately tied up with Buddhist spiritual teachings and morality. Mindfulness in the U.S., on the other hand, is often taught and practiced in purely secular terms. Does meditation make independent-minded Westerners more selfish instead of compassionate?

You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’
They say holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. And that means thoughts of revenge may seem like a path to justice and freedom, but actually prolong pain and suffering. Letting it go is a higher form of justice that truly sets you free.

We’ll be back with our regular format next week. Meanwhile, don’t forget to scroll just a bit for some Chaka-Chaka-Chaka Chaka Khan. Did you know that the repetition of her first name at the beginning of the song was a mistake by the producer — and they just decided to leave it that way?

Chaka Khan – I Feel for You
I Feel for You, 1984
Prince wrote songs for plenty of other artists, but I Feel for You is actually a cover of a tune from his first album. With the addition of rapping, scratching, and a sweet Stevie Wonder sample, Chaka Khan’s version is way better. As for the video, I’m still waiting for I Feel for You 2: Electric Boogaloo (YouTube)
